Are you giving your students enough desk space?

Without realizing the consequences, many school and university planners continue to use tablet-arm chairs in classrooms, when the size of modern textbooks, notebooks (and now a laptop!) simply require more desk area than is available on a typical tablet-arm.

It's easy to understand the rationale behind using tablet-arm chairs instead of tables: more students can be put in a given size classroom, thus driving down the cost of facilities. But... is it the right thing to do?

Set up your own test, as in the picture below, and draw your own conclusions!

After you've done this test in your office, take all three items to a classroom that is equipped with tablet-arm chairs. You may be surprised at what you discover your students have to put up with.
